This storm has stalled but is still on the way.

For 2/8/09: The unorganized nature of this latest volley of pacific moisture is keeping the dynamics from really forming. The bigger shot of moisture coming from this system out of southern California is still moving in our direction but slower than anticipated.

The warm temperatures that have settled in on the front end are not conducive to snow development with overnight lows in Gunnison only dropping to 19 degrees while Crested Butte held at 20 degrees. Some gusting winds are driving the windchill lower but it’s pretty warm out already. Yesterday produced highs in the 40’s for the town of Crested Butte offering the warmest temperatures we have seen since spring but today should stay cooler. Look for highs to still climb to the high 30’s before dropping as this next wave settles in.

The heavy snow we were looking for will build through this morning with snow expected through tonight and into tomorrow. These storms that are stacking in the west will be harder to predict with this slow pattern but it looks like we will have snow on tap into next weekend. Layer up today and expect changes.
