A little cloud cover.
For 2/1/09: The glancing blow from the northern system that we were expecting for today has all but fizzled. We can expect just light high altitude cloud cover early with a slight increase through the day but skies will clear again overnight as this high pressure settles in for the better part of the extended forecast.
Temperatures are starting off a little milder than yesterday with Gunnison reporting an overnight low of -9 while Crested Butte bottomed out at -2 degrees this morning. Daytime highs will rebound a little slower with the partly cloudy skies but we will still see highs in the 20’s again valley wide. One variable to the temperatures will be some gusting winds that will offer colder windchill values and you should be prepared for these as you head out.
High pressure will be the dominant weather feature through the better part of this upcoming week with mild temperatures and sunny skies. Our next chance at some snow will hold off until next weekend and we will have to see how that develops early in the week. Layer up as you head out today and don’t forget your sunscreen.
