A Blue Bird Day.

For 1/31/09: As if the beautiful clear skies we saw yesterday were not enough proof that this high pressure has settled in, more of the same for today will make it a great time to get outside. We will likely see some high altitude cloud cover building into this afternoon so if you are headed out on a big adventure layer up.

Temperatures will rebound quickly at the higher elevations from cold overnight lows with Crested Butte reporting -5 degrees while Gunnison dropped to -13 degrees. The inversion has set up and this will keep the lower valleys a few degrees colder than the ridges and higher elevations but the 20’s will be a likely resting mark valley wide. Cloud cover building overnight should insulate us a little against the super cold overnight lows but expect more negative values again tomorrow.

The glancing blow from the northern system that will dictate our weather tomorrow will mean a mixed bag of conditions for the valley. Any snow showers will hold to the higher elevations with a mix of sun and clouds getting sunnier the further south you go. High pressure will return by Monday morning and hold strong into next week.
