High pressure returns.
For 1/30/09: High pressure has officially settled into the area and we can expect sunny skies through the day with daytime highs rebounding quickly from cold overnight lows. We may still see some areas of cloud cover along the divide and higher terrain so it will be wise to layer up but sunscreen will likely be the greatest concern today.
Overnight lows were cold valley wide with Gunnison reporting –6 while Crested Butte reported -7 degrees this morning. Daytime highs will rebound to the 30’s valley wide but this high pressure will offer a window to that stubborn inversion for the lower valleys that will mean colder temperatures. Look for overnight lows to warm a bit for CB tonight while the south end of the valley hedges towards the negative teens.
A weak northern system will brush the area through Sunday with heavier cloud cover and a slight chance of some snow possible by Monday when we return to more high pressure that will hold for most of next week. It looks like we have some incredible conditions developing as we get a break from the consistent flow out of the north but you will want to stay layered through the weekend while we watch this one shot of moisture for Sunday.
