High pressure moving in.
For 1/29/09: We are entering our day of transition as the remnants of this last weak northern system blow clear of the area and the high pressure sets up in the west. We can expect a mix of sun and cloud cover today with the gusting winds offering some cold windchill values that you will want to be prepared for as you head outside.
We have not seen as much of a colder shift in the temperatures as was initially forecast and the overnight low for Gunnison only dropped to 12 degrees while Crested Butte hit 11 degrees. With the wind these numbers drop a lot lower into the negative teens so be prepared for that. Today’s highs will climb with the areas of sunshine but the cold front from the north will keep us hovering right around the 20 degree mark. By tomorrow a warmer air mass from the west will settle in but look for a strong inversion to set up over the lower river valleys and south end of the valley. This will mean cold overnight lows with a slow rebound even with sunny days.
There is a big shuffle underway in the west that will dictate our weather as we head into next week but a strong pocket of high pressure will hold into the weekend.
