Between systems.

For 1/28/09: This moisture from the north is continuing to cycle clear of the area with the addition of high winds starting to complicate the forecast. Yesterday’s winds blew the brunt of the previous wave clear of the area faster than expected but also cued up a fresh round from the north.

The biggest change we have seen would be in the temperatures with the cold core of that northern flow setting up with Gunnison reporting an overnight low of -2 degrees while Crested Butte hit -4 degrees. We will be slow to rebound with highs today struggling to get above the mid teens and a clearer night will mean more cold overnight lows. This is the perfect time for that inversion to form in the lower valleys and don’t be surprised if we see some very cold lows at the lowest elevations.

We are on the southern most end of this next pacific system and moisture will be limited and high wind gusts will likely keep everything moving pretty quickly. A small southern pop would put us in the big snow but this one will probably miss us.
