Heavy new snow.
For 1/24/09: The current flow of moisture into the west is holding a little to our north but regional radar is showing some significant moisture poised just to our west that will cycle through our area. This pattern is proving to be more productive then we had hoped and the winter storm warning for our area ha been extended into Monday.
Temperatures remain our hobbling factor with the consistently warm conditions lacking a catalyst to really get the snow falling. Overnight lows saw little movement with Gunnison reporting a low of 24 degrees while Crested Butte was even a little warmer at 25 degrees. We won’t see any real changes to this until early next week when the pattern shifts and we may see some colder air mixing in. Daytime highs will pop to above freezing but hover right around that 32 degree mark like yesterday.
Wet will be the best descriptor for our weather through the weekend as warm temperatures produce high moisture content snow and fog that will hold in the lower river valleys and over Blue Mesa. Pack plenty of light layers as you head out today and be prepared for some sloppy travel conditions if you are driving to the east or west.
