snow early.
For 1/23/09: The surprise we were hoping for has mostly fallen into place as this stream of moisture from the west and southwest come together over our area. The dynamics are mushy at best and this will limit the snowfall but we will see areas of heavy snow through the weekend.
Temperatures will be a big part of why this system will produce limited snow with the overnight lows a testament to both the fact that the inversion has cleared the area and warm temperatures will dominate. Gunnison reported an overnight low of 21 degrees while Crested Butte stayed even warmer at 27 degrees. We will see little movement in the temperatures through today with the low 30’s a likely mark valley wide. Overnight lows will stay mild and it will feel a little soupy out there with the high humidity and mild temperatures.
We will see the threat of snow through the weekend with a few inches everyday expected until we see a stronger wave move into the west on Monday. Be sure to layer up as you head out and expect sloppy wet travel conditions no matter what mode you pursue.
