Another sunny day but changes on the way.
For 1/20/09: The ridge that has kept us in the sunny high pressure conditions is continuing it’s slow move through to the west and we are starting to see some action brewing in the pacific. Today will present another incredible blue sky day with mild temperatures but the pattern is starting to shift so get out and enjoy it before the clouds start to build on the front end of what could be a snowy finish to the week.
Temperatures have stayed roughly the same as yesterday with that inversion offering a very cold overnight low in Gunnison of -15 degrees while Crested Butte only hit 1 degree this morning. Look for the ridges and higher terrain to rebound quickly with highs in the low 30’s but the lower valleys will have a longer struggle but will eventually reach the low 20’s. This disparity in temperatures will hold until we see some better mixing as the pattern shift into the end of the week and gusting winds scour the valleys.
Clear and sunny conditions will continue to dominate but we could start to see some light high altitude cloud cover in the form of mare’s tails and fish scales this afternoon so layer up. The shift in the west through the end of the week will offer some snow but just how much is still in question so do that snow dance and think snow.
