High pressure on the slow approach.

For 1/13/09: The northwestern flow is continuing to hold feeding weak remnants of this last northern system into northern Colorado with the divide keeping the brunt clear of our area. We are seeing just enough moving over the divide to complicate the forecast and offer areas of cloud cover and snow showers to the higher terrain. We will see much sunnier conditions today but remember to layer up to account for some colder areas of heavier cloud cover.

Temperatures have stayed mild with the continued mixing with no inversion present in the lower valleys. Crested Butte reported an overnight low of 10 degrees while Gunnison got just a bit lower to 8 degrees. We will rebound quickly under mostly sunny skies early to highs in the mid to high 20’s valley wide. Overnight lows will be colder tonight as skies continue to clear with the negative single digits or 0 as a likely low point for the coldest areas.

This northern jet which has lingered will continue to cycle off to the east with the high pressure from the west settling in for the rest of the week and the weekend. Until then stay prepared for changes throughout the day and carry some layers as you head out.
