Snow from the north.
For 1/12/09: This northern flow of moisture that was suppose to hold to the other side of the divide blew a little further south than expected on yesterday’s high gusting winds and has fed us a steady stream of snow showers at the higher elevations. Look for continued gusting winds as the tail end of this system cycles clear of the area through midday with the high pressure ridge to the west finally setting up over the area as expected.
Temperatures have remained mild with our high yesterday in the 20’s only dropping to the teens overnight with Crested Butte reporting a low of 15 degrees while Gunnison got a little lower at 13 degrees this morning. We will see highs in the 20’s valley wide but the variable will again be the colder windchill values as these winds continue to blow.
We will likely see the exact opposite weather today from yesterday with these clouds and snow showers early giving way to sunshine by the afternoon. Be sure to layer up and even with milder temperatures, keep an eye on the frostbite potential with the colder winds. We will have sunnier conditions on tap through the rest of the week as this western high pressure settles in overnight.
