Another fresh round of northern moisture.

For 1/9/09: THE CBTV WEATHER STATION WILL BE REPARED THIS MORNING. Changes in the timing and trajectory of the snow for today have increased the potential and improved the dynamics. We are seeing well organize pockets of moisture moving south into our area on the regional radar this morning and the result will be heavy snow for Kebler and the divide while Crested Butte can expect up to 6” by the time skies clear into tomorrow. The limitation here will be the wind and whether the storm stalls for us or keeps moving through quickly.

One facet of the improved dynamics for this system involves the cold front dipping further south then initially expected and this will mean colder temperatures then forecasted. Look for daytime highs to rebound slowly from the valley wide lows in the single digits to the high teens for the day. Gusting winds will keep windchill values feeling a lot colder so be sure to layer up as you head out and keep an eye on any exposed skin. Skies clearing into this weekend will allow the colder northern flow to set up with lows in the single digits and below for the lower valleys while daytime highs climb to the high teens and low 20’s.

Today’s storm will be fast moving and short lived but could produce a nice shot in the arm for the conditions. As you head out be prepared for squally snow showers and colder windchills and be sure to bundle up.
