A nice snowy surprise this morning.

For 1/7/09: THE TV10 WEATHER STATION IS UNDER REPAIR. LOOK FOR CORRECT READINGS LATER THIS MORNING. The southern most end of this latest northern system has dipped into our area offering a nice shot of snow early today with snow expected to continue into this afternoon. The resort is reporting 4” of new snow while 3” has fallen overnight in the town of Crested Butte.

The real bonus associated with this system is that the milder southern influence is holding over our area with moderate temperatures expected to hold while areas just to the other side of the divide see significantly colder conditions. Overnight lows held to the teens valley wide with the inversion not able to set up while this milder air mass holds. We will see some better mixing into tonight with high gusting winds offering some cold windchill values but the cold core from the north should stay there. Look for the high today to hover in the high 20’s and flirt with the 30’s for all elevations with the winds offering the only variable.

We will enter a gap between waves of pacific moisture on Thursday with another system pushing into the area for Friday. This looks to be another weak northern focused system but we can expect an inch or two of accumulation before skies clear into the weekend.

Look for a complete Crested Butte and Gunnison weather report, 24 hour trends and real time weather information now available at WWW.CBTV.TV.
