More sun but another system approaching.
For 1/2/09: We are into a gap between waves of pacific moisture and will enjoy mostly sunny skies for the better part of the day but layer up because we will see areas of cloud cover cycling through. High clouds early will build into a thicker coating by the evening with a northwestern flow sending a system into our area. It looks like another glancing blow from a fast moving wave so accumulation will be limited but it will stir the pattern pretty well.
We saw another night of that classic inversion with Crested Butte reporting a relatively balmy overnight low of 17 degrees while Gunnison dropped to -6 degrees this morning. Sunny skies through most of today will mean a quick rebound with highs climbing again to the mid 20’s or even low 30’s valley wide. By tonight we will see heavy cloud cover and gusting winds that will scour the inversion and should bring all elevations back into check but a cold front associated with this next round of moisture will mean colder temperatures for everyone.
The majority of this next system will hold to the north leaving us to the windier fringe but we will see squally snow showers through Saturday that may offer a couple inches of accumulation. Bottom line, get outside today for some sun because we will see snow in varied degrees through the beginning of next week.
