Cold and Clear.
For 12/27/08: The tail end of the system that gave us the snow through Christmas has blown clear of the area earlier than expected and the clear skies overnight have combined with the colder core of the northern system to produce some super cold overnight lows. We will see increasing cloud cover through the day focused mostly on the north end of the valley with more scattered snow showers possible before all the remnants of this last system actually clear the area.
Look for today’s temperatures to stay cold as the cloud cover slides into the area with highs topping out at 10 degrees in Crested Butte and 12 degrees for Gunnison. Overnight lows hit -13 degrees for CB and -12 degrees for Gunnison this morning and likely even lower in the lowest river valleys but this will be the coldest we see this weekend as high cloud cover building through tonight will moderate lows bringing them back closer to 0.
Another big change in the pattern through Sunday will bring us much milder daytime highs with the 20’s a likely mark all the way into the new work week. With a slow rebound expected for today you will want to prepare for some super cold temperatures as you head outside. Be sure to cover all exposed skin and watch for signs of frostbite especially if the wind continues to blow.
