Another 12"+ on the ground and still snowing.

For 12/26/08: This latest round of western moisture has diverged a little from it’s expected path with the southern influence continuing to hold a little longer than expected. The result has been more wind than snow through last night but we are continuing to see moisture lifting into the area to fuel more snow through today.

The transition to the colder components will happen today with an early pop in temperatures dropping off into the afternoon. Look for a high in Crested Butte of 22 degrees but much higher at 32 degrees in Gunnison as the southern influence holds strong early. Overnight lows will drop from the teens last night to the negative single digits tonight as the cold sets up and daytime highs will only rebound to the teens for tomorrow.

By Sunday we settle into a much more consistent pattern with actual sunshine expected through the beginning of the week. Be sure to layer up as you head out today with temperatures expected to drop through the afternoon and high gusting winds continuing to produce dangerously cold windchill values. If you’re traveling be sure to check flyingcrcker.com’s road report and be prepared for messing conditions.
