Our first taste of the super cold.

For 12/15/08: A steady stream of moisture moving along the California coast is feeding a looping low pressure trough that will offer moisture and complicated dynamics for our area through the week. Look for scattered remnants on the front end of a more organized increase in moisture to offer snow in varied degrees through the day increasing into tonight.

Last night Crested Butte reported a super cold low of -19 degrees while Gunnison stayed a little warmer at -12 degrees. Our daytime highs will creep back to the mid to high teens for all elevations but the cloud cover and snow showers will make that a slow transition. Tonight’s lows will show the overall pattern change with milder air lifting in from the south keeping temperatures on the positive side of 10 degrees. Daytime highs will continue to hold in the high teens into this week with good cold temperatures spurring snow from a wetter southern flow.

It doesn’t look like any particular segment of this next round will be a bigger producer than another but the steady stream will have us collecting a few inches a day into Wednesday. Another round could build into the weekend but for now it looks like the later part of the week will offer a break to dig out.
