Not a dud but...
For 12/14/08: The high winds running with this latest system have kept everything moving quickly and the stall over the area we were hoping for has never really materialized. The result was a fast moving but productive system that has left behind a good amount of snow on the ground and some solid remnants to feed snow again through today.
The cold pool has settled into the area with the combination of cold temperatures and high gusting winds producing some dangerously low temperatures. We will see a slow rebound from the colder overnight lows with Crested Butte reporting a low of 12 degrees this morning while Gunnison dropped to 10 degrees. Daytime highs will inch higher into the teens valley wide but continued cloud cover and high winds will keep it feeling pretty wintry. As skies clear into tonight the snow covered valleys will see the coldest temperatures of the season with the negative teens a likely low point. These cold temperatures will continue to hold through the beginning of the week slowly warming to the 20’s by Wednesday when a switch to another round of moisture from the south warms us up a bit.
We are continuing to see these waves of pacific moisture stacking in the west and are on track for more snow for Monday and Wednesday. Be prepared for cold temperatures and more snow as this pattern continues to produce potential snowmakers into next week.
